Schedule/Program
The topic of this year's conference is homology and function in systematic taxonomy in evolution and development. Homologous traits are similar due to their shared ancestry, although this ancestry can be evolutionary or developmental. Function is an important concept for homology, and we hope to research this relationship.
This year we will combine two confereces: The annual Consortium for the History and Philosophy of Biology (CHPB), which involves philosophers and biologists from three other institutions--Universtiy of Paris, University of Montreal, and University of Toronto--and has met annually for the last three years, and Duke's 8th Annual Conference in Philosophy and Biology.
