Ayrenne Adams, T'10
Ayrenne Adams is a junior from Cincinnati, Ohio. After spending two years in the Pratt School of Engineering as a Biomedical Engineering major, she has decided to pursue a major to History, concentrating in the African Diaspora, with a minor in Chemistry. After graduation, Ayrenne will be taking one year off in order to work with AmeriCorps and/or volunteer abroad before entering an M.D./M.P.H. program and beginning the path of becoming a doctor. She hopes to work in a hospital as a public health researcher or to work with the Centers for Disease Control.
When not studying, Ayrenne participates in several extracurricular activities outside of the Reggie Scholars Program. She is currently the Director of Communications for the Black Student Alliance and has been elected to serve as the Executive Vice President during the upcoming school year. Ayrenne also worked in the Children's Playroom at Duke Hospital and is shadowing a physician through the Health Careers Exploration Program. She also works with the National Society of Black Engineers and as a student manager at the Perkins Library Circulation Desk. This summer, Ayrenne hopes to conduct public health research while studying for the MCAT and conducting research for her senior thesis on women in the Black Panther Party. Outside of academics, Ayrenne enjoys hanging out with friends, reading, shopping, watching TV and taking naps.
The Reginaldo Howard Scholarship Program has been an awesome addition to Ayrenne's college experience. She has met some of her closest friends through this program and has gained invaluable advice about navigating college life at Duke. In addition to the wonderful support system, the scholarship program provided her with her first opportunity to travel outside of the country through a summer study abroad trip to Venice, Italy and has sparked her interest in international travel.
