Jawara Allen, T'12

Jawara Allen is a freshman from Raleigh, North Carolina planning to major in Biology and receive a certificate in Genome Sciences and Policy. He also plans to pursue a Ph.D in genetics after his four years at Duke University. Besides going to class, Jawara spends a lot of his time participating in performing arts at Duke. He currently plays the trumpet in the Duke Wind Symphony, and played in Duke Chamber players first semester. Jawara also enjoys attending many of the concerts and musical opportunities that both Duke and Durham have to offer including amazing jazz and classical performances.

The Reginaldo Howard Scholarship has impacted Jawara’s life in several positive ways. It has given him an outlet to participate in community service at Duke, and has also enabled him to meet many people who share his passion for helping others. For Jawara, the Reginaldo Howard Scholarship is more than just a means to an excellent education, it is a program that has allowed him to broaden his horizons and explore many aspects of both the Duke and Durham communities.
