Maria Daudji, T'09

Maria Daudji is a senior Biology Major with a certificate in Early Childhood Education. She was born and raised in Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania. The Reginaldo Howard Memorial Scholarship has been a huge blessing in many ways. Besides enabling her to get through college without worrying about how I would pay for it and she has been privileged to be a part of a family of scholars that care about bringing important issues to the table. As a Reggie, she has learned about what it means to be someone with African heritage, what social justice looks like and how to speak out for our rights as global citizens.  Another great aspect of being a Reggie scholar is the opportunities we have to pursue our interests; one summer she used part of the enrichment funding we receive to work with a local Tanzanian doctor who treats patients using natural remedies. This was a really great experience because she was able to see first-hand how poverty and bureaucracy works to limit the health care in Tanzania. Last but not least, being a Reggie has given her life-long friends and mentors that she respects and cherishes.
