Brandon Roane, T'09

Brandon Roane is a senior from Baltimore City, Maryland.  He is a pre-med mathematics majors and will be attending medical school following his undergraduate years at Duke.  Brandon has aspirations to pursue a career in the field of forensic pathology hoping to become a head medical examiner.  Outside of his academic work, Brandon is very passionate about community service.  During his sophomore year he chaired the Black Student Alliance Outreach Committee, putting on programs connecting the Durham community to the black student body at Duke.  Junior year he served as the Duke Student Government Community Liaison and works on large scale collaborative projects with groups such as North Carolina Central Student Government Association, Duke Durham Neighborhood Partnership, and Stop Hunger Now.  Brandon continued to advance his impact on the Duke community by serving as the Black Student Alliance President during his senior year.  During his tenure he was able to participate in bringing Michael Steele, Harold Ford, Jr., and Soledad O’Brien to campus.  This past summer Brandon did research through the Excellent Research Opportunity (EXROP) program at the Duke Institute for Genome Sciences and Policy. Upon graduation Brandon will be taking a hospital job for a year before applying to medical school.  Some hobbies that Brandon engages in during his free time include playing paintball with his friends, playing with his dog, and watching ESPN.

Being a Reggie has been very important to Brandon as it is the main reason he chose to come to Duke.  He could not resist the community he felt as soon as he stepped on campus and the great opportunities he would have being able to interact with other influential students and faculty.
