Youmna Sherif, T'12
Youmna Sherif is a freshman from Centreville, Virginia. Her main academic interest concerns the mind-body relationship, specifically how biopsychosocial development affects the formation of neuronal connections and brain structures. Her goal is to set up a clinic that is concerned primarilly with neurological rehabilitation and presents a treatment plan that takes into consideration the psychological ramifications of neuronal degeneration, injury or abnormal growth. In addition to academics, Youmna is involved in a few extracurricular activities including the Muslim Student Association, The Interfaith Dialogue Project, the Best Buddies program, and the Duke Global Medical Brigade.
As a part of the Reginaldo Memorial Scholarship, she has come to find a sense of community within the larger Duke community. She thinks it’s because the Reggies, as we affectionately call ourselves, make a conscious effort to have each others’ backs, to lend support when needed, and to provide help when possible. The Reggie community has essentially given her a sense of belonging and a desire to be more proactive.
