Leigh Soares, T'10

A proud member of the Class of 2010, Leigh Soares believes that the Reginaldo Howard Scholarship program truly has been the basis of a fulfilling college experience for her thus far. Being a Reggie Scholar has offered her not only opportunities for intellectual expression and leadership development, but also the unique love and support that bind the group together. (Epic game nights are another fabulous bonus.) She used part of her enrichment funding last summer so she could accept an unpaid internship position with Discovering Justice, an educational non-profit in Boston, and plans to use the rest to support a position with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of African Affairs in Washington, D.C. These are just a few kinds of experiences the Reginaldo Howard Scholarship helps make possible.

Leigh is also heavily active in On Tap, Duke’s tap dancing group, and STEPS mentoring at Hillside High School in Durham. She works on campus for both the Literature Program and the African and African-American Studies Department. She is a history major from Newton, Massachusetts.
