PETER NICKERSON (1995) Received his A.B. in East Asian Languages and
Civilizations from Harvard University in 1983, both an M.A. (1987)
and Ph.D. (1995) in History from the University of California, Berkeley.
His scholarly interests concern East Asian religion, society, and
culture, and the comparative social history of religion. His research
focuses on the history of Taoist and popular religious traditions
in ancient and medieval China, as well as religion in contemporary
Chinese societies. He has also published on and has a continuing interest
in kinship, marriage, myth, and culture in early Japan.
