Center for Asian & Asian American Studies

The Center for Asian and Asian American Studies (CAAAS) is a multi-disciplinary center that fosters research, debate, and exchange in, and between, Asia and America. CAAAS will examine the links between Asian and Asian American issues in an era of global migration, media, and capital from a transnational perspective that bridges ethnic studies and area studies.

In addition to research, CAAAS is also committed to pedagogy and activism. To that end, we have and will continue to work closely with the current initiative by Duke undergraduates establish a viable Asian American Studies curriculum at the university.

The Center’s co-directors are Anne Allison (Cultural Anthropology) and Leo Ching (Asian & African Languages & Literatures).
