New Campus

In 2005, Duke University began planning a long-term, large-scale revitalization of its Central Campus, which will take place over 20- to 50-years.

Envisioned as a campus for the 21st century that advances academic endeavors, promotes collaborative learning and fosters interdisciplinary research, this "New Campus" is intended to complement East and West Campuses and better connect them both physically and programmatically.

Planning efforts continue despite the economic downturn in 2008. Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, as master designer, in conjunction with Reed|Hilderbrand Landscape Architects and William Rawn Associates will develop an overall vision for the campus and its architecture and define a first phase of construction. Arts and residential program needs remain among the initial considerations.
