Members of DCPIE have worked at a school for the children of migrant laborers in Beijing, China for the two past summers. These projects have involved: research on the hygiene practices, curriculum, and socioeconomic challenges facing this type of school in China; volunteer work as English teachers; and donation of supplies. To help continue this work, members of DCPIE have worked with representatives of JPMorgan Chase, which is involved in migrant education in China, to establish a DukeEngage site at a migrant school in Beijing.
At Duke, we hope to fundraise in order to assist these schools, which have no governmental financial support. We also plan to raise awareness on campus with film screenings and guest speakers.
