Field Trip Resources for Educators

“One-stop shopping” for teachers looking for field trip opportunities at Duke. Each of the lab pages offers detailed information on what to expect from a field trip, how to prepare, links to the standard course of study, logistics information and important contacts.

Some of the many Duke resources available for field trips include:

  • Research Greenhouses include a room full of carnivorous plants, take-away supplies for the classroom, and exotic plants organized by different tropical zones.
  • Human Simulator uses a $500,000 mannequin to bring anatomy alive with interactive exposure to the links between body organ systems.
  • 3D Visualization Lab is an area for experimentation, development and showcasing of Duke's latest 3D and virtual reality technology.
  • Motion Sensing Lab explores the world of tracking using infrared, cameras, microphones and lasers. Calculating motion involves some very interesting math problems.
  • LifeFlight helicopters, rescue trucks and emergency care resources offer memorable lessons in physics, flight, careers, and emergency response options.
