In past community service projects, Kappa Chapter has been involved in:

-  Rape Awareness Week/Sexual Violence Prevention Week 

-Ronald McDonald House Volunteering

-Clothes Collections for Victims of Venezuela's Natural Disasters

- Minority Women's Week

- World AIDS Day

- Book Collections for Children in need

- Latino Student Recruitment Weekend organizing activities, sponsoring a "Life at Duke" Student Panel and a Duke Resource Panel.

- Weekly volunteering at El Centro Hispano, where Hermanas serve as teaching assistants in ESL classes for adults.

- Fundraising activity for the Hurricane Mitch Relief Fund.  In conjunction with El Rodeo Mexican Restaurant, we were able to donate a percentage of their proceeds to the fund.

- Organization of a Field Day in conjunction with El Centro Hispano for those who utilize the center as a source of information and community unification.

ORGULLO

Orgullo is a scholarship that was created by the Founders of the Kappa Chapter of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc.  It is our pleasure to continue the tradition.  This year one lucky applicant will receive a one-time scholarship of $300.00.  All Latina High School Seniors living and attending high school in the Durham or Chapel Hill areas are eligible.  Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and plan to attend college  or university.  The application deadline is April 16, 2002.  All applications should be in by this time (not postmarked)!
