Hi, I am Roger and I am the current president of the Singapore Students Association. I’m a junior majoring in Economics and pursuing a double minor in Mathematics and Statistics. Aside from academics, I am actively involved in Duke International Association and play table tennis for Duke at the NCTTA. I am also interested in exploring more of this world we live in (esp the Middle East!) so hit me up if you share the same interest. Oh and did I say I love karaoke?

I hope this website will serve as a useful portal of information for incoming and prospective Duke students. There is a comprehensive ‘Freshman FAQ’ page that is especially helpful and if you have any further questions, please send us an email via the ‘Contact Us’ page! I hope to eventually see some of you at Duke University :)

Tay Rong En
Vice President

Hi! My name is Rong En and I am pursuing a Biology major and German minor here at Duke, which pretty much mirrors my academic interests. I consider myself a professional scientist, and am currently investigating some of the regulatory mechanisms of the cell cycle in yeast in a laboratory here. Other than this rather geeky interest I enjoy travelling and hiking whenever I get the chance to. I also really enjoy meeting new people coming to Duke each year and the sense of a home away from home that the SSA provides. If you are considering Duke as a place to pursue your undergraduate or graduate education, or simply as a place to visit, I would be more than willing to get to know you!

Ocean-Lou Yang

Hi, I’m Ocean and I’m a junior majoring in Biomedical Engineering (BME). Contrary to common belief, there are a significant number of girls majoring in Engineering. I definitely enjoy my major. During my free time, I love cooking, traveling and working out in the gym. If you share any of my interests, I’d love to hear from you :). Also, if you have any queries about life at Duke, please feel free to contact me at ocean.lou AT

Poo Yi Hong

Hi, I’m Yi Hong. I am the SSA’s treasurer and currently a freshman. I am pursuing a degree in Economics and a certificate in Markets and Management. I am also in the Duke Club Waterpolo team as well as the Duke Pediatrics Aquatics Life Skills. I play soccer as well and I have been an Arsenal fan for 14 years. The courses I take in Duke are largely influenced by my interest in people, history and languages so feel free to talk about any of the above. Outside of Duke, I love to travel and I will be more than willing to share my travelling experiences if you are interested. Feel free to ask me questions about anything!
