Heifer Project. Tim and Gloria Wheeler, missionaries sponsored by the Presbyterian Church, USA are the Honduran staff members of Heifer and will coordinate the itinerary and arrangements for the team as well as be our constant companions. Our Duke teams have a long and very happy history working with the Wheelers
  • Project
The particular work project is decided and organized by the local leadership of the host village in consultation with the Heifer staff. The Duke team is a small part of an organizing model that promotes grassroots leadership and empowerment of people from the poorest, most forgotten areas of Honduras. Past projects have included building schools, churches, and clean water systems, community centers, and, most importantly, relationships.
  • Purpose
To live briefly and humbly among people who struggle daily with
poverty and other social and political disadvantages; to learn from a Honduran community about the Good News of Jesus among the poor;to take their stories andstruggles back into the context of North American lives; to integrate theology, history, economics and worship into transformed Christian discipleship.
