Assignment: Neapolitan Sixth Chord
Using a different key for each write brief progressions that demonstrate correct usage of bII6. Try to vary the approach to the Neapolitan by using VI, IV6, I , or I6.
- bII6-V (minor key)
- bII6-V (major key)
- bII6 preceded by parallel first inversion triads.
- Expanded Neapolitan (bII6-bII) preceded by bVI.
Listen to the melody below. I have composed an accompaniment for the first few measures. Please write out the MELODY ONLY for next class, noting each structural cadence and each appearance of the Neapolitan 6th.
