Welcome to the Duke University Student Nurses' Association!

audacity of imagination."
Gena and Sarah Todd attended the campus forum for Hurricane Katrina Relief last week to scout out ways for our organization to be involved in this effort. There were many opportunities discussed, but especially recommended is the wonderful option of manning the Duke Red Cross Club's Blood Drive, taking place Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of next week on West Campus from 11am-6pm each day. The Club is asking for one hour time block commitments to help with paperwork and giving snacks, etc. anytime during the three days. NOTE: WE WILL NOT BE DRAWING BLOOD OR STICKING PATIENTS!!! This is a great opportunity for us to help, the time commitment is short, and it is health-care related but does not require any medical training. If you have any questions, about this, send an email to Patrick Cacchio (firstname.lastname@example.org), the Chair of the Blood Drive Committee for Duke's Red Cross Club. There are tons of other functions happening too, so look at your calendar and see where you can make space to contribute to helping our unfortunate friends from New Orleans.
Our snack shop is fully functioning and has been very successful so far! While you're down there purchasing snacks, check out our DSNA bulletin board. To post pictures or announcements, just get in touch with Emily M. or Gena.
For everyone who didn't get enough kicks in at the Race for the Cure, don't worry! There is another great opportunity to run for a good cause. The Duke physical therapy school is hosting a 5k on October 2. It starts at the football stadium and costs $13. This will be a fantastic way to support another student organization like ours and make new friends.
At our last meeting, we had some great discussion and planning for the fall semester. We can be looking forward to a picnic with the Graduate SNA, involvement of our organization in GPSC, a blood drive, a possible Campout fundraiser, selection of a faculty member to receive a teaching award, and participation in our state conference October 13-16 in Raleigh.
