What to look for while reading Sacks:

First, I want you to enjoy the book and get some insight into the relation of brain function to basic aspects of being human. Second, I would like you to be able to answer 5 questions about each story, as much as possible (not all of this information is contained in each story).  (On the "Topic list" for this segment of the course, you will find these issues listed with "disorders of the brain and nervous system")

1. What is the name of the disorder? (e.g., Korsakov's syndrome)

2. What are its symptoms? (memory loss; anterograde and temporally graded retrograde)

3. What are its origins? (alcoholism)

4. What neuropathology underlies it? (degeneration of mammilary bodies)

5. What treatment for it is described? (none)
