Saturday, Nov. 7, 8pm — Duke University has a tradition of celebrating events relating to German-speaking culture. The German department hosts several parties, such as an annual Weihnachstfeier and a Duke-in-Berlin reunion, and other student groups organize an Oktoberfest (with around 400 visitors) and a Viennese ball (with the Duke Symphony Orchestra). We anticipate a lot of student interest in a gala event with the motto "Ich bin ein Berliner." There will be a German culture slide show with large-scale projections of images from the divided Berlin and Berlin today. This gala event will feature cultural German music and delicious hors-d'oeuvres and will be the perfect culmination point to an ambitious and important semester-long project focusing on the fall of the wall.
