A: You just mentioned that in the Hotline there is another popular question, what is it?
B: yes, it is the problem of sex, the phone calls we receive, this question is increasing. Also calling us about it, there is a lot of women. Before there were more men than women. Now the number of women who call also increases. I think, that more people call us about the technique and relationships during sex. So it is about the quality of marriage. I think, that is increased from before, like people pay more attention it. But now people can talk about it, such as questions about orgasms, right? Or feelings, they can all talk about it. And they wish that their sex life is better. I believe, it is a advancement of Chinese people’s thinking. This advancement, for people’s needs, and understanding, I think it is all very good.
A: you just mention that you think it is an advancement of society, but I also heard many Chinese people, since many are older Chinese people that thinks the moral values of society is declining. Do you feel, that their concern, and also before the feudal and oppressed societal structure and the topic we are talking right now comparatively. Even though we see all these changes, they seem to reflect a modernism. And caused by the changes in societal and economical structure. But what are its realistic benefits, does it really have no disadvantages?
B: I believe, this problem, we should divide into two parts. Because what I just said is with respect to people that calls and asks me questions. These are the things that troubles them in their lives. Personally, only when a person can really feel their need, feel that they have some rights in their marriage, then they realize, how to make this right and the feelings in their lives really perfect, not perfect, more like make it happen. Personally, I believe it is a breakthrough in Chinese people’s thiking. Because before Chinese people won’t discuss sex publicly in front of other people. Because Chinese people believe that “sex” is a rather dirty topic or a rather really awkward topic. You cannot speak of it in civilized discourse. Then, people in conversation, when they swear or say bad things, they often bring up sex, a lot of Chinese cuss words, they deal with sex and they are very nasty. So they cuss other people using it. So you can see people’s values. Another thing is that even though there is a breakthrough on the view of sex, a lot of people have become overly reckless. They don’t really restraint themselves. Then I can according to my own feelings, my own rights, I can do whatever, like society responsibility or responsibility to others. Maybe not too many, more is that it is a enlargement of personal lust. That it is completely for the purpose of satiating oneself. Then I think this will cause what a lot of people say is a decline in moral values. But I don’t think it is a problem that appeared after the Reform, but only during the Reform, people has dragged this problem from the corner into the streets. So there seem to be more reckless people. But I think its not like when people don’t talk about it people don’t do it. In the past Chinese people is like don’t talk about it. Then, there are some rules, that if you surpass the what a person can reasonably accept, there are certain punishments. Such as adultery, that is out of marriage affairs. They had many different kind of punishment. But now everything is more open, people seem to think that there is no constraints. That there is very little moral constraints, and Law doesn’t cover moral issues. So this gives some people opportunities to just do whatever they want. Society also have more tolerance, they think it is a individual’s business, so he should take responsibility. We won’t care about it. This is a view that many older generation cannot accept.
