A: Can you please talk a little about what we call "floating population"?
When he comes to Bei Jing, how do you categorize the different types of people?
B: In Bei Jing, We have to say that Bei Jing,
have to say that it is a very populous place,
What I know of Bei Jing's population is that there aren't many pure,
true Bei Jing people anymore. When we walk on the street, or when we are
working, we can see everywhere alot of people that are not native Bei Jing people.
Some of these people have permission to stay in Bei Jing permanently.
That is the same as a Green Card in America. In China, it is the right to live here,
or a Registered License of Bei Jing. Some other people, don't have permanent
staying permission, so they don't have Bei Jing's Registered License,
but they can work at Bei Jing. So depend on whether they have the Registered License,
you can devide people up into 3 types.
One is native Bei Jing people.
Two is foreign that has moved to Bei Jing with a Registered License of Bei Jing,
Therefore you can call them Bei Jing people. Three is foreign that works in Bei Jing
but don't have Registered License of Bei Jing. They just work here.
If you look at it from the perspective of type of work, People like us, that has been to
college and are educated. We work in the area of higher education and some
cultural departments. We are type one, Another type is people that works in
companies, because companies need alot of talented people, especially in a high level.
So there are floating population in these places. One other type is the uneducated
people. They depend on manual labor to contribute to the city and make their living.
Their major occupation is selling. things they sell include clothing,
food and some floating sellers. Some of them also have their own shop.
